This role provides generalist HR support and specific Payroll & Benefits support firmwide. Specific responsibilities will include the following: 

HR Generalist Responsibilities

• Supporting the HR Manager on various formal and informal Employee Relations matters. This could include capability investigations, disciplinary and grievance processes and more informal ongoing performance management and absence matters.
• Supporting the HR manager in reviewing and updating all HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current legislation.
• Managing some internal HR processes including exit interviews and new starter feedback meetings.
• Assist the HR manager in dealing with general HR queries, providing clear and concise advice.
• Advising and guiding Managers to develop their staff management skills and knowledge,
• Support the Training Officer with HR matters relating to the Firm’s Trainees, generally relating to exam fails, performance matters, contractual compliance, and absence/health matters.

Payroll & Benefits Responsibilities

• Support the Payroll & Benefits Officer with the collation, submission, checking and reporting of monthly payroll activities and provide cover when the Payroll & Benefits Officer is on leave.
• Typical payroll duties will include:
  • Managing the data for payroll changes to be processed.
  • Submitting the monthly payroll to the bureau for processing.
  • Checking and reviewing the payroll data from the bureau before the pay run is confirmed payslips are processed, to ensure accuracy of payments.
  • Complete post payroll run journals.
  • Support monthly Pension reporting
  • Support monthly and ad hoc benefits reporting
  • Email distribution of P45s and pension letters
  • Updating the HRIS
• Assist with the implementation of benefits, including the registration of staff members as appropriate for benefits and arranging the provision of e-vouchers provided by the Firm to reward long service, milestone birthdays etc.
• Assist with the tracking and reconciliation of holiday entitlements, including the annual update of allowances in the HR system
• Support the Payroll & Benefits Officer and the HR Director with firmwide salary reviews and bonus reviews, including the preparation and analysis of data listings as well as the preparation of letters and the uploading of changes into the relevant HR systems.
• Assist with the preparation of HR letters relating to changes to terms & conditions (e.g., flexible working arrangements, promotion letters, maternity letters)
• Assist with the responses to internal staff questions relating to payroll & benefits matters

Other Responsibilities

• Supporting various HR data requirements, including data collation for various ongoing or ad hoc purposes analysis, and reporting, and specifically including the preparation of the monthly HR metric packs for the Leadership Team.
• Drafting miscellaneous HR and employee communication and documentation.
• Responding to miscellaneous HR queries across the Firm.
• As part of the HR team. drive process efficiencies, including the increased use of technology to support all HR activities. Support the implementation of new IT platforms, to increase the automation of HR processes and data gathering as may be required
• Performing other ad hoc activities as required to support the wider HR team

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

• 3+ years of HR experience, including previous experience in an HR role including dealing with some ER issues.
• Knowledge of up-to-date employment legislation.
• Some experience and knowledge of the payroll process is preferred. If limited/no experience in this specialism, a willingness to learn and a can-do attitude. The Firm will provide full training is this aspect of the role.
• HR experience in a professional services environment is preferred
• Proven ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks at any time
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to support regular, timely and clear communication with all stakeholders
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail
• Comfortable working in a reasonably small HR team and helping the team out with other tasks as may be needed from time to time.
• Solution oriented.
• Strong command of the Microsoft Office suite, including data analysis using excel
• Experience of using HR Systems, and preferably some experience of using Payroll & Benefits systems/platforms
