What is it?
The private sector is widely recognised as the engine for growth and poverty reduction in most developing countries, and the donor community has been quick to realise that the lack of capacity of small and medium enterprises as well as the policy, legal, institutional and regulatory challenges of the broader business environment act as significant barriers to increasing competitiveness and economic growth. A number of initiatives have therefore been established to provide business advisory and consultancy support for small and medium enterprises, improve the overall business environment, support value chain development and facilitate the achievement of market systemic changes for inclusive growth and increased employment.
