Free Schools
The first 24 Free Schools opened in September 2011. This represented the continued revolution in education in England today. PKF have played a key part in helping a number of proposers open Free Schools. We supported their planning and development, guided them through complex programmes of delivery and ensured that they were well placed to deliver a transformational education for their students and communities.
For example, PKF were the project managers for Canary Wharf College, a Free School on the Isle of Dogs in East London. We were appointed in April 2011, five months before the school was due to open. Working closely with the Free School trustees, the Department for Education and other key stakeholders, we overcame a number of critical challenges, including the procurement and adaptation of the school’s premises, in order that it opened as planned in September 2011.
Having supported the development of over 60 Free Schools, academies and UTCs, in both the primary and secondary sectors, PKF is in a strong position to provide a comprehensive, tailored and distinctive support service to Free School proposers.
We recognise that as proposers your time is precious. Our team will guide you through the complexities of the process and support you in developing a school that brings your vision to life. In particular, our experience as a leading firm of accountants and business advisers in the commercial and not-for-profit sectors puts us in a unique position to support you in the set up, preparation and operation of your Free School as a small business in its own right.
If you are considering setting up a Free School, or already part way through the process, PKF can help you. To speak to one of our Free Schools team please click here or contact:
