Converter Schools
The Academies Act 2010 paved the way for the majority of schools in England to be able to convert to academies on their own terms. Since September 2010, over 1,000 primary, secondary and SEN schools have converted to become academies.
A successful conversion requires multiple strands of work to be undertaken in parallel, including consultation, the establishment of a legal and governance structure, asset transfer, the setting up of business, accounting and financial systems and the meeting of the Department for Education’s requirements. Without careful planning and adequate resourcing the process can be delayed or even fail.
