Counter Fraud Services

PKF offer a comprehensive range of professional forensic services. Alongside other forensic services concerning the detection, investigation and sanctioning of fraud, we also offer specialist Counter Fraud Services which focus on fraud as a business cost.
We help clients to accurately measure the scale of their losses, to reduce them and thereby to deliver significant financial benefits. The latest global research shows that such losses average 5.7% of an organisation’s expenditure. The return on the costs of this work has been shown to be as high as 12 : 1 with a reduction in the losses of up to 40% within 12 months.

We have a strategic partnership with Europe’s premier academic centre of knowledge about fraud, the Centre for Counter Fraud Studies (CCFS) at University of Portsmouth, and Jim Gee, our Director of Counter Fraud Services, is also Chair of the Centre. The combination of specialist, hands-on experience and academic research and rigour has proved to be very effective.

For example, PKF and the CCFS have jointly created the most comprehensive fraud resilience database in Europe and now have the capacity to undertake cost-effective Fraud Resilience Checks, benchmarking clients against their peers across the private, public and voluntary sectors. We provide confidential reports identifying where counter fraud arrangements can be strengthened.

We also offer a range of related cost-effective services to assess and develop anti-fraud cultures and to undertake fraud displacement research (revealing why fraudsters choose to target a client organisation and what can be done to ensure they don’t).
Over the last decade, a new counter fraud ‘profession’ has developed with around 15,000 people trained and accredited at foundation, advanced, degree and masters levels across the UK. It is now the ‘default’ position that people working in this area should be professionally trained. We support this development and provide professional Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist training as well as the UK’s first training courses on the accurate measurement of fraud (and error) losses and the accurate assessment of performance, savings and the related return on investment..

Finally, we offer specialist services to protect individuals and organisations against the threat of identity fraud. With the development of technology and the growth of social networking, this is a rapidly developing problem. Using highly specialist techniques, we look where others can’t and continuously and proactively scan to see if personal details have been hijacked. This is a low cost service which is particularly relevant to individuals whose profile makes their credibility vulnerable to identity fraud. A similar service is also available to organisations to prevent their corporate identities being hijacked and to protect their brands.
