Case study 1 - Gaining understanding
We carried out a strategic review of the tax affairs of a housing group. This included advising on how best to achieve their aims through the optimum group structure (the group included a property development company and charities). We carried out a review of the group’s activities and advised on setting up and using of subsidiary trading companies, to avoid tax charges in the charities on trading activities. We also looked at payroll operations and the reporting of benefits-in-kind to ensure compliance with HMRC requirements. Additionally we advised on the availability and use of dispensations and PAYE settlement agreements to minimise the administrative burden on the group.
Our work was undertaken by meeting with key personnel to get a real feel for the group activities. This enabled us to give the best advice on their specific issues.
Case study 2 - Close collaboration
PKF carried out a strategic review of a large housing group’s reporting to board and management. This involved detailed discussions about what they required and comparing this against best practice. PKF met the client’s deadlines and helped them to implement the recommendations made.
Case study 3 - Primed for opportunities
PKF has been involved with a number of clients (former ALMOs) in terms of reviewing their tax structure with regard to future development opportunities. This has involved case by case tax and VAT review on projects.
