Corporate Recovery Specialist Trevor Birch joins PKF
25 August 2011: PKF, the leading firm of accountants and business advisers, has appointed Trevor Birch to head up its London Corporate Recovery and Insolvency team.
An insolvency and restructuring specialist, Trevor began his career at Arthur Young in Liverpool in 1983 and was promoted to partner in the firm, by then known as Ernst & Young, in 1993. He subsequently led the firm’s Northern corporate recovery practice.
Trevor left Ernst & Young in 2002 to become chief executive of Chelsea Football Club, where he brokered Roman Abramovich’s £140 million takeover of the club.
After leaving Chelsea, Trevor, a former professional footballer, undertook other quasi-restructuring roles in the football industry, serving as chief executive of Leeds United, Everton, Derby County and, most recently, Sheffield United.
In 2005, Trevor returned to the accountancy profession as a corporate recovery partner at Deloitte. He subsequently joined FTI Consulting, where he co-led the launch and development of its Interim Management Practice in London. On leaving FTI, Trevor undertook a number of interim management and consultancy roles prior to joining Sportfive GmbH – Europe’s largest football media and commercial rights agency – as chief operating officer and, subsequently, CEO.
As well as leading PKF’s corporate recovery activities in London, Trevor will also join the firm’s Football Industry Group.
Commenting on the appointment, Martin Goodchild, managing partner of PKF (UK) LLP, said: “Trevor has a highly impressive track record in the corporate recovery arena and has been one of the most influential figures in the football industry over the past decade. We look forward to applying his considerable experience and expertise for the benefit of our clients."
“Trevor’s arrival further strengthens our successful corporate recovery practice and will help us to continue to expand the business in the future.”
Trevor Birch said: “I have been impressed with the quality of PKF’s team and the practice’s vision for the future. I look forward to working with my new colleagues to cement the firm’s position as one of the industry leaders.”
