Our work in the Community

At PKF we have long recognised that local businesses and local communities are inextricably linked. The firm plays an active role in contributing to society through both financial support and through enabling our people to take part in activities organised by the firm as well as supporting them in their own initiatives. We encourage all of our people to take part in charitable and voluntary activities as we recognise that this strengthens our bond with the communities in which we work. Activities arranged by individuals include events such as Easter and Christmas collections and themed dress-down days.

The firm’s more formal activities include Payroll Giving and Action Days, the latter deriving from the firm’s membership of Business in the Community (BITC) is an independent registered charity involving over 700 of the UK’s top companies. It aims to encourage businesses to have a positive impact on society.

PKF allows all partners and staff up to one week per year to take part in community activities which include:

Pro-bono assignments
From time to time we provide our skills and advice free of charge to local community groups and voluntary organisations. This allows these enterprises to benefit from the same standard of service enjoyed by commercial businesses. Much of this work takes place through ProHelp, a national network of 1,000 professional firms that collectively is the largest national provider of pro bono support. Several of our offices are founder members of their local ProHelp group.

Voluntary activities
We encourage our people to contribute to the wider community, whether individually or in teams. Many support local charities and community organisations through, for example, Cares Action Days (part of BITC) which involve teams performing tasks in the local community. Other activities include the Right 2 Read programme which involves helping local children with their reading. As the community benefits so do our people – from team-building, leadership training, gaining a real sense of achievement as well as a boost to morale.

Fundraising
The firm supports a number of national and local charities. In addition our people organise a wide range of fundraising events, both during the working day and in their own time. We facilitate charitable donations via tax efficient payroll deductions through Give As You Earn.

Skillshare
Skillshare was developed by PKF with BITC. It involves PKF representatives setting aside several days a year to advise social entrepreneurs on business ideas and start-ups. In this way social entrepreneurs can draw on expertise that they might not otherwise afford.

Our aim is to enable the firm and our people to play a part in the development of both local business and local communities. At PKF we believe that helping the local community is an important part of our business.
